Recycle the eggshells
It's such a nice treat to have fresh eggs, every day. What to do with the egg shells? Instead of throwing them in your trash or compost... why not feed them back to your girls? Save the shells, smash them on the ground when you provide those afternoon/early evening treats and watch them disappear. Egg shells are a fantastic provider of calcium which your laying girls need. If you discover that their shells are becoming soft or not as hearty, crushed oyster shell can also be added to their diet.

Baby Chicks and Water Fountains
Fill your chick fountain and place marbles or small round rocks inside the base. Why? Those little gals are pretty small and you want to do all you can to keep them dry and out of the water.

Eggs
Collect them daily.

Water
If you don't want to drink it, either should your girls. Clean it daily.

Food
Check to ensure they have food. Chickens will not overeat like we do, so go ahead and make sure they have plenty.

Food Leftovers and Scraps
No citrus, avocados, potato peels. It's up to you if you want to feed them products that contain meat or animal byproducts, but I would advise against it. Also, if they don't eat it, pick it up and throw it in the trash. Don't leave moldy or decomposing food laying around. It will upset their digestion and they could get ill.

Handling Chickens
Wash your hands before and after handling your chickens. If you're not opposed to using instant hand sanitizer, have a bottle nearby to prevent the spread of common bacteria etc. If you don't like the idea of hand sanitizer just be sure to wash your hands with warm soap and water before and after handling your girls or cleaning up their coop.

Warm Weather
To reduce the effects of heat stress during warmer weather months, feed your flock those extra treats and snacks in the early morning or late in the evening.

Cold Weather
Help your chickens stay warm by ensuring they have plenty of food to fill that crop before they retire to the roost for the night. If you know that the temperatures are going to drop or if there is a forecast for frost on the ground, be sure there is plenty of dry bedding in their coop. If it helps you to sleep at night, hang a brooder light in coop to generate heat. Alternatively, you can drape an old blanket over their coop to hold in some of their heat too.
